10 STEPS TO YOUR PODCAST

1. Identify Your Intentions

2. Explore Your Menu of Options
Some parameters to consider: length, consistency, frequency, quality, participants, advertising, ultimate destiny, pay structure, etc.

3. Establish Your Budget

4. Choose Your Podcast's Name and Image

5. Sign Up for a Hosting Service
For example: hipcast.com, podomatic.com, podbean.com, libsyn.com, soundcloud.com, vimeo.com, youtube.com and others.

6. Select Your Equipment and Software
Examples. For recording: digital recorder; dictation app (usually called "Voice Memos"); Skype and ecamm.com; Yeti microphone; "dead kitten"; Porta-booth.

For editing: Audacity (for PCs), GarageBand (for MACs).

7. Record and Gather Your Clips
Clips: archive.org; freemusicarchive.org; Music Bakery; istockaudio.com; uniquetracks.com, and many more. Voice overs: fiverr.com; bolaldgo.com; voices.com and many more.

8. Edit
Audacity, GarageBand, and others.

9. Upload Your File

10. Promote Your Podcast

Get your Rss feed from your hosting service. Mine is feed://cmmayo.podomatic.com/rss2.html Then add this to iTunes by going to http://apple.com/itunes/podcasts/specs.html and following the simple instructions for submitting a podcast.

Once you do, iTunes will give you a unique link or URL that looks something like mine, which is http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/c.m.-mayos-podcast/id387010490 and then add this URL to your website, blog, twitter, Facebook, etc.

THREE STEPS TO MAKE A SIMPLE, UNEDITED PODCAST NOW

1. Record something, say, you reading your poem, on your smartphone's dictation app, e.g., "Voice Memos." When you are stop, press "done," which creates a file. Then email yourself the file.

2. On your computer, create a free account on www.podomatic.com

3. Sign onto your account on podomatic, follow the instructions to create a podcast and upload your file.
